[ how is her room this cute. goddamn. cloud's looking around with a surprised look, like he has no imagination and couldn't imagine a room being like this. honestly part of it is the nature. he likes nature. there is so little of it in this hotel. ]
... Not a bad room. [ but he'll sit on the chairs in the little nook so they can talk and stop looking around impressed ] Where did you get that key, anyway?
[ he didn't ask earlier because he just accepted !exploring!, but now that it's gone he might as well ask ]
[She smiles a little at that, then goes ahead and seats herself on the bench.]
It was about a week ago, on Sunday. I went back to my room after the execution, and it was just sitting on my desk. It was blank, though, except for a star in the middle of it... the "G" didn't appear until today.
I had a feeling that I should keep it a secret, especially from the staff, so I didn't say anything to anyone about it until today.
Yeah. [ he's tilting his head in thought ] You don't need to talk about it. In fact, it's probably better we don't. Just helps to know what you've seen or not.
[ what she might be Aware of, he means. being constantly listened to is a pain in the ASS. ]
I don't think it'll surprise you too much to know there's a lot the staff can't talk about. Anything related to those memories...definitely tie into that.
Yeah, kind of. [ he leans back a little, looking at the ceiling ] I asked Sheila about that notebook they found. I'd already guessed the staff might be under their own contract, and that thing implied that's the only way the Nightman operates. With contracts. So whatever's in theirs is probably a lot more detailed than the ones we signed.
Yes, that makes sense. So the reasons they hide their faces and can't use their names must be in their contracts, right? Along with a lot of other terms...
... All of us are entertainment for the Nightman. If we're improvising and being played along his script, think of the staff like... actors in a play. They're all playing a role. If too many people see past that... Doesn't make them very good at the job. Right?
[ he REALLY hates having to talk circles because people are ALWAYS LISTENING and he's PARANOID ]
... I'm not saying we shouldn't tell anyone. We probably just shouldn't make it a group announcement, and we should try to keep the personal information about Gemini limited. But if you got a key-- there's probably at least seven more around somewhere.
There's probably not any kind of order to it. Your key just happened to turn into Gemini's today, so ... There might be others who have them or who'll get them, and they'll turn into someone else's.
What we can do with the information we get from those rooms, though... I'm not sure.
... Yeah. [ a little pensive before he shakes his head ] I'll try to see if anyone else got one of those keys. There should be eight total, but who's to say if everyone got them before this week or not.
Between both of us, we should at least find one or two keys. [ he doesn't expect them to get all of them since. ya. secrets ] I wonder if those weren't given to us for bad reasons.
... I don't think just looking made anything worse. [ he touches her arm briefly because she looks worried and he doesn't want That and again. affection week ] But we should keep in mind the staff definitely isn't the one inviting us in. So why did you get that key? And who gave it to you?
[She looks appreciative at the touch, then gives those questions some thought...]
The only other entity we're aware of that's involved in all of this is the Nightman... who would probably only meddle if it was "entertaining" in some way...
... Whether it's the Nightman or someone else here, we don't know their agenda. That's another reason why we should be cautious going forward with this.

[ it's a fair enough explanation, but he's frowning in thought anyway ]
So you don't know what you did to get it at all?
no subject
But I agree. I don't think they'd like hearing that we went snooping in their room...
Whose room do you think that was, anyway? ... Maybe Gemini's?
no subject
[ he taps his fingers on his arms after crossing them ]
Last week. Did you get to see any memories from the staff?
no subject
... Once, yes. While I was with Aquila...
Why? Did you?

[ there's a pause ]
I don't think that's the only way they have to hide who they are. That's why... I wouldn't spread the stuff we found in Gemini's room too much.

You don't think that, if we shared too much personal information, it could conflict with their agreement...?

I see... I'll be careful.
But in that case, I wonder what we can do with what we've learned...?

... If it's in alphabetical order, though, I would think "G" would be one of the latter ones...

I suppose all we can do now is try to get more information. At least it feels like we're one step ahead of where we were yesterday.
