They don't really like talking about... well. Anything. Or rather, they're severely limited in what they can say.

They almost seem... afraid when you press them. Or cagey. It wouldn't surprise me if the leash the Nightman has on them is incredibly short.

At this point last time a couple of them had been comfortable enough to reveal who they were, but...

I've been pretty sure this entire time they've got their own contract with him. That's one way to make sure to keep the leash tight.

[ he shakes his head ]

The way they freaked out over memories? They're not supposed to tell us, and we're not supposed to guess, either.

Seems like it doesn't it. We're bound by our contract in the same way, but theirs must be particularly strict.

Yes, I saw that too. The second you dig any deeper than surface area, they clam up.

Yeah. There's a lot more going on there than we thought of at first. Don't really like it.

You can say that again. At this point I’d take a nice little round of sociopaths getting their kicks in, no complicated extras behind the scenes.

They are normally easier to deal with that people with mysterious secondary motives and contracts.

I don’t really need to explain the whole “sometimes they’re in worse positions than us” thing to you of all people, right?

[ a small half smile and a shrug. ]

... No, you don't. And I'm sure they are. But I'm not worried about a betrayal. So long as we keep their limitations in mind, anyway.

[ he thinks so? at least? sometimes you work with people who can only help you 10% because their hands are tied in hell. this is the same thing ]

Betrayal's not the thing I'm concerned about, I'm just aware it can be a lot of the people behind the scenes as well. And while we are at risk, we can be as open or not with the people around us as we choose.

They are confined to each other, at best. If they can even admit that much.

... I'm not sure how open they can be with each other, either. Boss is always listening, right?

... Not just the average. We know it'll last eight weeks for sure, with our contracts.
